In 1918 in a small town in North Dakota called Alamo, 18 year old Linnea Brandonberg began her first job as a teacher. She was just out of Normal School, which is where teachers earned their Teaching Certificate.

She's a small wisp of a girl, away from home for the first time, who looked as if she were but a child playing dress-up in her mothers clothes.

From the moment she meets Teddy Westegaard the sparks start flying. Teddy "didn't want no woman living in his house!" From the get-go he was grouchy and did his best to find somewhere else for the new schoolmarm to live.

His obstinence only made Linnea rile up all the more. She may have been small and newly out in the world, but she wasn't afraid to let Teddy know what she thought of him and his antiquated ideas.
